
Penha Chapel and Bishop Palace Surrounding Area Optimization Design Competition
First Prize Winner
With the goals to improve pedestrian accessibility to the Penha Chapel and to renovate the two existing vista points around the Bishop Palace for better public uses, the project employs environmental friendly, context respected design strategies that maximize views and pedestrian accessibilities for the general public.
The scheme proposes an accessible walkway consists of ramps and a treetop walkway bridge connecting the Chapel with the recreational area in Rua da Boa Vista. A stepped observation deck descending down to the accessible ramp from the east end of the Vista Point of Our Lady of Penha serves as a grand outdoor seating area to enjoy the panoramic view of the City
